September 6, 2011
Ford Middle School Library
Meeting called to order: 6 P.M.
Treasurer's report: Motion to accept, made and passed
FMS News: Mr. Green reported
*Brand new social studies and science books
*3 new math teachers
*7th grade now 90 mins math, 2 classes
*8th grade 2 math teachers, 14 students/class, losing eng lit. but students need higher math skills
*Fitness Club will begin – after school program for all grades, 2 days per week, one day with bus and one day without, 20/grade on a sign-up basis
*Halloween Party will be Oct 28th
AES New: Paul LaBelle reported
*520 enrollment at AES
*Reading Street program in place – Good results, collect data on individuals and evaluate their needs
*Extra 45 mins. of specialized reading in reading groups
*Science lab – going more hands on then textbooks, 2 topics per grade level, 10-12 week studies
*Field trips – for future trips, looking into bidding out to other bus companies so students could go further – busses need to be back to transport middle school and elem. students back home
*K-4 teachers working on writing benchmarks, 4th grade completed last year, K-3rd working this year
Stephen Donovan addressed parents:
*on school council involvement and PTO involvement, parents needed for both, use as outlets to help make suggestions and changes
*volunteers in the schools – let principals know you're available and get CORI checked
6:34 New Business: Joyce Hester reported
*CORI – all parents volunteering need to get CORI checked
*New this year, committees formed for PTO events, lessen the burden of one person doing everything
*Wildcat gear – new forms to go home twice during the year for pre-order, items can be sent home with students – Suggestion to put form on school website so parents can order all year, anytime
*Need committee to be in charge of Wildcat gear
*Fall fundraiser coming up – kick-off 9/21, our biggest money maker
*Movie Night 9/30 at AES, volunteers needed, movie choice is RIO
*Halloween Party is Friday October 28, same night as Ford Middle School
Suggestion from parents attending:
*More info on web site for each event, maybe even sign-ups – would need someone to monitor this
*Little write ups with sign-up sheet so parents know what the event & volunteering entails
*Once volunteer forms are in committees will be formed and can meet outside of PTO meetings
Motion by Katelyn Meunier for a new fundraiser – a kid friendly coupon book with discounts to stores and restaurants to be sold for $25.00 with a 50% profit ($12.50) – a pre holiday sale, maybe November – the company will send books to school with each student then bringing it home and either returning the $25 or returning the book, students can purchase more books if needed – details to be worked out – motion accepted
7:00 Mention from Joyce Hester about a Thank You from Mrs. Ashley's class – every student wrote a special thank you to the PTO for an event/activity they liked that the PTO sponsored
Inquiry from a parent about a school calendar – discussion of last year's calendar and whether to start a new one this year or wait until next September – PTO will wait and organize a school calendar with school events and student drawings, birthdays, etc. for next September
Motion for PTO meetings to be held on the 1st Monday of every month at 6 P.M. at Ford Middle School library, motion accepted
