INTRODUCTION

Between about 3000 BC and 945 BC the Egyptians settled in the Nile Valley.  Pharaohs who were thought to be gods as well as kings ruled them.  Even after death they believed the souls of the pharaohs continued to rule, therefore they built magnificent tombs for these rulers.  The ancient Egyptians made many contributions to other civilizations.  Many of the artifacts created by Egyptians have survived.  They were skilled in astronomy, medicine, and mathematics.  Egyptians made many contributions such as paper, ink, the calendar, surveying, government, architecture, art, and religion.  The Egyptians built a civilization that lasted for more than 2000 years and left a lasting influence on the world.

TASK 

You will be creating a magazine on Ancient Egypt.  There will be 10 parts to your magazine.  A successful magazine will be eye-catching, neat, and contain an appropriate amount of pictures and useful information.           

PROCESS     

You will be divided into groups.  The work will be divided evenly among the group members.  Each member will be responsible for his or her sections of the magazine.  A list will be handed in stating who is doing what. The team members will do research to complete the following tasks:

1.  Cover: include – title, authors, copyright date, picture(s).

2.  Map: print out the outline map of Egypt

Locate and label – Nile River, Mediterranean Sea, Nile Delta, Red Sea, Lower Egypt, Upper Egypt, Giza, and Thebes.

3.  Make a timeline of the following rulers: Narmer, Ahmose, Thutmose III, Hatshepsut, Amenhotep IV, Tutankhamen, Cleopatra, King Khufu, Akhenaten.  Also include when the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom began.

4.  Describe what daily life was like for the people of Ancient Egypt.

Write one paragraph about each topic:  family life, education, kind of jobs they might have, food, clothing, shelter, recreation, and religion.  You should have a total of at least 8 paragraphs; use a separate heading for each.
