GENERAL MUSIC

General Music courses are required of every student. The ultimate goal is to make the student a good performer, a respectful audience member, and an educated consumer. These courses are designed to build skills. Students will be expected to sing, chant, and keep a steady beat during every class.

Things your child should be able to do:

Keep a steady beat, move and sing to it

Match pitch

Sing numerous songs and tonal patterns

Find and name any key on a piano

Play simple songs/progressions/melodies on piano

Ask your child to demonstrate some of what they’ve learned. You’ll be impressed and they’ll be practicing!

Grading Policy

• The grading policy is consistent with the Student Handbook. Refer to it if you need more information.
• Letter grades: A B C D F scale
• Grades, effort & conduct affect Honor Roll status.
• All work counts: class participation, projects, quizzes, activities, worksheets.
• Class performance counts because you are learning a skill.
• If you miss a class, you miss learning the skill. You should make the class up after school.
• Getting make up work and signing up to stay is your responsibility.
• All work must be turned in before grades close.
