AES Wildcats showed amazing acts of kindness during our celebration of National Kindness Week. Students felt what it means to be kind by writing notes of appreciation to a special friend in their lives. Words like “You are a creative writer,” “I love playing tag with you at recess,” “You have a beautiful smile,” were written and delivered at recess. Wow! Wildcats sure know how to be kind and uplifting!

🚲🦺 Bike Safety at AES! 🦺🚲
We were excited to welcome Safe Routes to School to Acushnet Elementary School for a special bike safety demonstration! Students learned important information about how to ride safely, follow traffic rules, and make smart decisions while biking in their community.
This presentation helped reinforce the importance of safety, awareness, and responsibility—both on and off the road. Thank you to Safe Routes to School for supporting our students and promoting safe habits!

Students in Ms. Coelho and Ms. Rebello’s class completed a cross-curricular unit in which they made their own zoos. Kids had a budget to buy their animals, measured to build enclosures, mapped it all out, and became an expert on one of their animals. Then, students from each class got to teach each other about their animals.

Hat Day at AES
Acushnet Elementary School had a fun and festive Hat Day as part of our Read Across America Week celebration. At the beginning of March, AES students attended a magical performance by the New Bedford Ballet. This year's ballet was "Courage, Perseverance, and Trust: The Majiro Story." Our students were amazed by the beautiful dancing, the colorful costumes, and the way the story was told through movement and music. It was a fantastic opportunity for our entire school community to experience the performing arts and see how stories can come to life on stage. Moments like these help inspire creativity, curiosity, and a love for the arts!

🍫🎉 Sweet Fun at Candy Bar Bingo! 🎉🍫

Our PTO Candy Bar Bingo Night was a wonderful evening filled with laughter, excitement, and lots of sweet prizes! Students gathered with their friends and families to play bingo and compete to win candy bars while enjoying time together in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Events like this are a great way to bring our AES community together and create special memories for our students. A big thank you to our PTO and volunteers for organizing such a fun night for everyone!

In Music class at AES, 3rd graders are learning note values in the most fun way—by playing Note Value Bowling! Each turn helps the students recognize note values, and they’re having a blast while counting up their scores. Learning music is even better when it feels like a game!

❄️🐻 Preschool Science in Ms. Carvalho’s Class! 🐻❄️

In preschool, Ms. Carvalho’s students have been learning all about hibernation. As part of their learning, they conducted a fun science experiment to explore how a bear’s paw might feel in the snow compared to our human hands.

After testing and discussing their observations, the class came to a consensus — the bear can’t feel the snow the same way we can! What a great example of curiosity, hands-on learning, and scientific thinking in action. 🧠✨

Second-grade students in Mrs. Stotts’ class had a blast during physical education with parachute games! Students practiced teamwork, communication, and following directions as they built a parachute “tent” and sat inside. These fun activities also supported coordination, upper-body strength, and spatial awareness—all while learning in a positive, active environment!

📖 Dr. Seuss Reading Celebration Week (March 9–13)
In honor of Read Across America, students are invited to participate in themed dress-up days inspired by some of our favorite Dr. Seuss books! From wearing green for Green Eggs and Ham to mismatched socks for Fox in Socks and PJs for The Sleep Book, it’s going to be a week full of reading fun and school spirit. We can’t wait to see everyone’s creativity!
💛 AES Kindness Week (March 16–20)
Our 4th Grade Ambassadors have organized a special Spirit Week in celebration of World Kindness Week. Each day has a theme designed to bring our school community together and spread kindness throughout AES. From Smiley Monday to Mix-Up Friday, students will have opportunities to show respect, responsibility, and compassion in fun and meaningful ways.
We look forward to seeing our Wildcats participate, celebrate literacy, and share acts of kindness throughout both weeks!

📚✨ Author Visit in Ms. Corey’s Second Grade! ✨📚
Ms. Corey’s second-grade class had a wonderful experience participating in a live author read-aloud of The Gift of Words by Peter H. Reynolds. Students first listened to the live reading and then learned how to draw the tree from the story, connecting literacy and creativity in a meaningful way.

You're never too young to work through the engineering process! Grade 2 students tested and graphed material strength using beam bridges. Then they were challenged to use one of the weakest materials to build tall, strong structures. Geometry and material properties in action.
