Read Across America Week Day One
We kicked off Read Across America Week at Acushnet Elementary School with a splash of green for Green Eggs and Ham Day. Students and staff showed their school spirit by dressing in green as we celebrated a favorite Dr. Seuss classic and the joy of reading together. At the beginning of March, AES students attended a magical performance by the New Bedford Ballet. This year's ballet was "Courage, Perseverance, and Trust: The Majiro Story." Our students were amazed by the beautiful dancing, the colorful costumes, and the way the story was told through movement and music. It was a fantastic opportunity for our entire school community to experience the performing arts and see how stories can come to life on stage. Moments like these help inspire creativity, curiosity, and a love for the arts!

Our PTO Candy Bar Bingo Night was a wonderful evening filled with laughter, excitement, and lots of sweet prizes! Students gathered with their friends and families to play bingo and compete to win candy bars while enjoying time together in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

In preschool, Ms. Carvalho’s students have been learning all about hibernation. As part of their learning, they conducted a fun science experiment to explore how a bear’s paw might feel in the snow compared to our human hands.
After testing and discussing their observations, the class came to a consensus — the bear can’t feel the snow the same way we can! What a great example of curiosity, hands-on learning, and scientific thinking in action. 🧠✨

Second-grade students in Mrs. Stotts’ class had a blast during physical education with parachute games! Students practiced teamwork, communication, and following directions as they built a parachute “tent” and sat inside. These fun activities also supported coordination, upper-body strength, and spatial awareness—all while learning in a positive, active environment!

From Smiley Monday to Mix-Up Friday, students will have opportunities to show respect, responsibility, and compassion in fun and meaningful ways.

Ms. Corey’s second-grade class had a wonderful experience participating in a live author read-aloud of The Gift of Words by Peter H. Reynolds. Students first listened to the live reading and then learned how to draw the tree from the story, connecting literacy and creativity in a meaningful way.
